FareShare rescues food and cooks thousands of nutritious meals every day for charity.
Since 2001, we have worked with supermarkets, wholesale markets, farmers, manufacturers and other food businesses to rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill.
Our volunteers cook this perfectly-edible food into nutritious meals in Australia’s largest charity kitchen. We provide all meals free-of-charge to charities in Melbourne, Geelong and other parts of Victoria for people facing serious hardship.
This year FareShare will rescue at least 650 tonnes of food and cook around 1.2 million meals for over 400 charities including soup kitchens, homeless shelters, school meal programs and community foodbanks.
FareShare is funded through philanthropic foundations, support from businesses and donations from the public. We run a particularly lean organisation with approximately 50 volunteers per staff member. For every $100 we receive we can cook 150 free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough.
