Through your Feed Geelong donations, those in need have been provided with better access to fresh fruit at Christ Church Community Meal’s daily breakfast program.

In 2016, Christ Church Community Meals received a $5000 Feed Geelong (Small) grant from the Give Where You Live Foundation to not only provide fresh fruit, but more importantly ‘soft fruit’ such as bananas and watermelons to accommodate the needs of their guests, many of whom experience poor dental health and cannot bite or chew hard foods.

Running every morning of the year, the Christ Church Community Meals Program provides free meals to those who need emergency support along with an evening meal that runs twice a week.

Supporting some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community, the aim of the Program is to provide fresh, nutritious food that may improve the physical health of their guests.

However, ‘it’s not just about the food’, as the volunteers from Christ Church say. The Program offers guests of a range of backgrounds – from those who may be sleeping rough to single parent families – the opportunity to connect with others while enjoying their healthy meal. For some, the meal at Christ Church could be their main meal of the day. For others it’s their only one.

With the aim of addressing Geelong’s food insecurity crisis, funds raised during the Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal will go directly to providing grants such as this to assist those organisations working within the Geelong Emergency Food Relief System, while also drawing attention to the crisis on our doorstep.
